Introduction: The Maker Project
Edit: I've changed my direction of the Maker Project onto a different form a creation. Read the next post for more information
Throughout the course of the coming weeks, I will be documenting my learning experience with 3D modelling, a form of creation I have never done before. Coming from a background of working in 2D, I am often curious on how 3D models are made and the working processes behind them. I am someone who is curious about new techniques and mediums for creation and want to have some experience in every practice.
My basic plan for this learning project is to document the techniques and working processes I will need to develop and also the digital models I will make. I don't want to make this experience too complicated for myself, so I've decided to keep my desired object I'm modelling as something simple in form and is not too intricate.
I haven't fully settled on my idea yet, but as the project moves on, I am looking to model three different objects. Rather than modelling one object three times and seeing how each iterations improves, I think modelling different things allows me challenge myself and force myself to see if I can use certain techniques I used from one object onto another.
First off, I will need to do my research on 3D modelling to give myself some background knowledge of this field of work, find a modelling program to work with and also watch some tutorials to show me the functions for the tools I will need to use.

I think this is a good challenge for this project. 3D modelling is also a project that I have intention on trying because I like making things by hand. Art in another way is craft and it is really important for people to explore more possibilities in their own creation.
ReplyDelete3D modeling is something I have always wanted to try, however, I am not very good at computer. I think the creative combination of technology and art would be a catalyst for new types of art in the future. Look forward to your project!
ReplyDeleteHey Curtis! Your project sounds super neat, especially since I am a to-be animation student going into 2D (but am still interested in 3D as well!) Really excited to keep up with your progress! I am no expert with 3D modelling programs, but I have heard a great deal about the programs Blender and Maya! I have tried Blender a bit back in middle school but have never tried Maya. I assume that Blender is more for beginners though!
